FOLDING ART ON PAPER DELLONNE TRIANGULATION SERIES PHILIPPE HALABURDA STUDIO 2024
Delaunay triangulation
About the theme of "Delaunay triangulation"
Delaunay triangulation, a fundamental concept in computational geometry,
is a basis for many geometric algorithms.
I explore the intricate interplay of geometric elements inspired by this concept through abstract compositions on paper.
Using colored paper folded into geometric shapes and accentuated with black tapes, I evoke the notion of discrete points in general position forming triangles in the Delaunay triangulation.
The folded colored paper represents the discrete points, each fold signifying
a distinct point in space. I emulate the geometric arrangement observed in
a Delaunay triangulation by arranging these folded pieces on paper.
The black tapes delineate the boundaries of the triangles, ensuring that
no point is within the circumcircle of any triangle, mirroring the defining property of Delaunay triangulations.
Through this artistic interpretation, I aim to convey the elegance
and complexity of Delaunay's triangulation while inviting viewers
to contemplate the beauty of mathematical structures in visual form.
The juxtaposition of color and black short lines creates a visually striking composition that engages the viewer in a dialogue about the intersection of mathematics, geometry, and art.
